RESIDENTIAL MOVEMENT WORKSHOP
24-28 April 2019
Tycanol, Pembrokeshire, Wales/Cymru
In this latest of the Locator series we will disclose a river’s everywhereness; both as it occurs within and between our bodies and through the fluid fields of our environment; situated in Tycanol, an ancient sessile oak woodland in the foothills of the Preseli mountains, west Wales.
My birthday began with the water…
Poem in October, Dylan Thomas
From interstitial lakes, cerebrospinal fluidity, vapour trails and breathing clouds, subterranean blood vessels, steaming skin, mouthfuls and bodies of water, we will navigate the labyrinth of streams that cross this woodland and flow wider to the sea. Through practices of transfer, touch and movement we orient to a river’s flowing entanglement in the field of our experience and it’s everywhereness.
Locator is an ongoing series of residential workshops created by Movement Artist Simon Whitehead and developed over the last 25 years. Tycanol, an ancient sessile oak woodland and a SSSI nested beneath the Preseli hills, Wales, has been the home for this located performance practice. Residing in the sensory life of the body and its enmeshment with other beings, Locator is an active practice of deep ecology and performance. Facilitated through a process of moving, dancing, walking and drifting, witnessing, howling, drawing, writing, fasting & eating, making and resting; within the fellowship of community.
Accommodation is in a converted medieval gatehouse at Pentre Ifan; with bedrooms, showers, kitchen and warm studio.
